Google has delayed the launch and is keeping Android Wear 2.0 in a developer preview state until early 2017. Perhaps the plan was to have a smartwatch drop on the scene the same time as the Pixel phones as a complete package. According to Evan Blass, Google will release two sizes of its watch in Q1 of next year.

Lately, it feels the Smartwatch and Android Wear has slowed, whilst there is still a number of new and upcoming hardware options, the whole Android Wear circus has subsided. Google will hopefully push the platform back into the public eye next year however, as in the past this could have been the Christmas of the Smartwatch. Maybe next year.
